Howdy folks from Okmulgee, OK, which is about 100 miles or so east of Oklahoma City. Been a fascinating day.
Michael towed Max's car back to his shop called 'Routh Roadside Assistance' in Cowan, AR. Michael put a new fuel pump on the 1939 Cadillac LaSalle and we were good to go.
So off we went in search of lunch and we found it at:
Delicious. Like a diner/meat & three. Fantastic grilled chicken salad.
We decided to take a detour down to Mena, AR … big 2.75 hour detour southwest of where we should have been but what the hell? We don't need to be in Pueblo until Thursday and check-in isn't until 3pm… so there's that! It was a beautiful drive through the mountains. Lots of old barns and wildflowers.
We had to backtrack our way up to Fort Smith, AR to get back on the path we had detoured from. Along the way we found this:
That is Jerry. Jerry was stoked to see that they named a gas station after him! Woohoo! Go Jerry!
We made it back to Fort Smith and guess what happened? Max's car gave out again. They say that cars with fuel injected engines shouldn't vapor lock. I gotta call BS on that one cause it sure did seem like a vapor lock moment! We let the sweet Nelly rest for a bit and then were able to get back on the road and attempt to hoof it to Oklahoma City.
We crossed the Arkansas River just in time to catch a beautiful sunset.
We didn't make it to Oklahoma City. We all got tuckered out and decided to crash at a Best Western in Okmulgee. Basically the middle of nowhere but halfway between Tulsa and Henryetta. About 107 miles to Oklahoma City. We'll see it tomorrow. I'm crashing. Wake up call at 7am again. These guys really like to get up early! Sweet dreams, y'all!
Peace!
I bet your dad gets the biggest kick out of you hahahahaha!
